SRMIST undertake palm seed plantation & beach cleanup drive

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur as part of its Unnat Bharat Abhiyan undertook two initiatives recently. The team planted about 10,000 palm seeds on the banks of Siruvanjoor lake and Nattarasanpattu lake in the Kancheepuram District. This event was inaugurated by the SRMIST Registrar Dr. S. Ponnusamy. The event was presided by Mr. Chakrapani, Headmaster of Government Middle School and Head of Parent-Teacher Association of Nattarasanpattu Government School, HoD of Civil Dr. Ravichandran and Associate Director (Campus Life), and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan nodal officer Dr. V. Thirumurugan.

Bharthidasan Trust jointly coordinated in this program in which 150 students of SRMIST, students of Nattarasnpattu Govt. School and faculty members participated in this event held from morning 6 am. The event was coordinated by S.Pradeep, faculty of Civil and Dr.Samuel, Biotech faculty of SRMIST.

SRM IST team observed International Beach Cleanup Day in association with National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India and National Building Research Centre. About 150 students and faculties joined the clean-up drive at Kovalam Beach. Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life), SRM IST KTR and Dr. Pravakar Mishra, Scientist F, National Centre for Coastal Research, Inaugurated the program and this event was coordinated by Dr. R. Nagalakshmi, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, and SRM IST KTR.

The team went on a rally from the Kovalam Beach temple and ended with Bus stand to raise awareness of cleanliness among the stakeholders and about the prevention of one time use of plastics, maintain environmental hygiene, importance of coastal resources and protection of the coast from pollution.
