The SRM cycling club, under the supervision of Directorate Of Student Affairs, organised Cyclothon' 17, a 78 km cycle marathon on 8th October 2017.
The theme was to create the "Save Water" awareness and make people join hands and work for a better future.
About the Event
The event was flagged off at from the Arch Gate at 5:30 AM by Mr. Subramaniam, a retired police officer. People took part with great enthusiasm in this awareness rally for the cause ‘Save water’. Cycling club assisted in the backup plan by providing a truckload of bicycles at the starting points of the rally to help the participants who did not have a bicycle.
Starting from Archgate, the participants completed a lap of 78 KMs via Vandalur, Vandalur flyover, Kelambakkam, Tiruporur, and Chengelpet.
Pit stops were arranged at 4 different places to provide refreshments to the participants. An ambulance and a physiotherapist team from SRM Hospital, followed the cyclists throughout the lap to ensure the safety of Participants. People who couldn’t complete the rally were safely escorted by the organising team to the start position.
