Welcome to 2D MATERIALS AND DEVICES LABORATORY (2DML).

Dr. Senthil Kumar joined Department of Physics and Nanotechnology in April 2016. He received his Ph.D in physics from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, India. He was a postdoctoral fellow in Simon Fraser University, Canada where he worked on the precise control of dopant impurities in II-VI semiconductor nanowires using advanced tools like Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD), Optical spectroscopy at liquid-He temperatures (4 K) and nanoprobe experiments. He was awarded a Brain-Korea 21 (BK-21) fellowship and worked as Research Professor in Yonsei University, South Korea where he developed strain engineering techniques to improve the flexibility of TCO thin films on polymer substrates for flexible electronic applications. He is a recipient of many awards including DAAD scholarship, DST-JSPS visiting student fellowship,IIT Madras research fellowship, and merit award for first rank in M. Sc physics.

Dr. Senthil’s current research focuses on Van der Waals heterostructures based on transition metal dichacogenide (TMDC) 2D crystals such as MoS2, MoSe2, WS2, WSe2 etc., for optoelectronic applications. The goal of his research group is to create large-area atomically sharp van der Waals epitaxial heterostructures of TMDC-based 2D crystals that can lead to new functionality enabled LEDs with high quantum efficiency. These atomically thin heterostructures not only can lead to high performance new-concept devices, but also would offer a great platform for understanding the fundamental physics associated with interface-phenomena. His group is also interested in developing flexible transparent conducting thin films for photovoltaic applications.

August 2017: Advacned CVD system for 2D layers growth from Graphene Square has arrived!!!

March 2017: Sakthi Lavanya joined NEEM group as JRF for DST-SERB sponsered project.

December 2016: Mr. Nitin Babu Shinde joined 2DML Group for his doctroal studies.

October 2016: Dr. Senthilkumar received “Early Career Research Award” from DST-SERB with a grant of Rs ~ 48.23 lakhs for a period of three years.
