The Nanotechnology Research Center (NRC) is established with the aim of excelling to create the state-of-the-art facilities for nanotechnology research, development and products. The NRC is committed to the responsible development of nanotechnology as an important part of its environmental, health and safety research strategy. Our centre is designing and synthesizing a diverse range of materials- polymers, inorganic nanocrystals and thin-films and studying their structure and properties using state-of-the-art characterization methods. NRC has been equipped with multiple facilities covering contemporary equipment for fabrication/growth and characterization of cutting-edge nanostructured materials. We focus on breakthrough research in the following areas:
-
Fabrication of thermoelectric materials and devices
The thermoelectric materials have gained much attention as a promising technology for recovering electricity from waste heat and hence reduce the global warming. We design, fabricate and characterize various thermoelectric materials like PbTe, Bi2Te3, Sb2Te3 and Ca2Se for real time application in various devices. For room temperature thermoelectric applications, we are exploring the conductive polymers incorporated with inorganic nanofillers like PANI/GO, PANI/CNT. -
2D Transition Metal Dichalcogenides (TMDs) materials, Van der Walls heterostructure materials for optoelectronics and flexible transparent conducting materials for photovoltaics
Large scale synthesis of 2D transition metal di-cholcogenides such as MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, WSe2 and its applications in optoelectronics. We have designed and developed the growth-process for the production of wafer-scale spatially homogeneous thickness controlled atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) which are most needed for the modern electronic devices. We are also working on flexible transparent conducting materials such as ITO and ZnO and their applications in photovoltaics. -
High voltage, high and stable capacity cathode and anode nanomaterials with different morphology for Li and Na ion batteries
Fabrication of high quality epitaxial thin films of cathode (LiCoO2, LiMn2O4 etc.), anode (LiTi2O4, Si, Li2Ti4O7 etc.) and solid electrolyte materials (LiLaTiO3, Li7La3Zr2O12) for Li ion batteries. -
Magnetoelectric multiferroic single phase, composite materials and thin films
Multiferroic thin films, Rare earth doped Ni ferrite materials, Nanocrystalline perovskite and double perovskite oxides, Semiconducting thin films, Magnetostrictive materials, Anomalous Hall effect. Recently we visualized the n-p junction formation associated with oxygen vacancy migration in Ca-doped BiFeO3 (BCFO) thin films through spatially resolved scanning photocurrent mapping. -
Magnetic nanoparticles/ nanostructures growth and characterization materials
Magnetic anisotropy studies in rare earth transition metal based thin films, Magnetoreactance and Magnetoresistance materials - Pulsed Laser deposition based epitaxial thin films
- Growth of Nanofibers using electrospinning
- Intermetallic and Metal alloys
