About the IGCHE Programme
Indo German Centre for Higher Education (IGCHE) is run by a consortium of German universities seeking to institutionalise the exchange of Indian and German students by having a considerable part of bachelor studies in India.
The major goals of the IGCHE programme are to provide students in India with access to high quality German education through an innovative pathway programme, where students spend the first 3 years at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) and then transfer to a reputed German University in the 4th year to earn an undergraduate degree in engineering from both institutions. With this unique educational background students will be able to work for various companies both in India and in Germany.
In the first three years of the study, all students will do their courses in English at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University). SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) will be responsible for the courses of study, including German language training from the first semester onwards. It is mandatory to pass the exam of TestDaF level 4 by the end of the third year in order to continue the study in Germany.
In their sixth semester, while still at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University), the students will have one or two subject specific courses in German which will be taught by German guest lecturers. Those courses will either be block courses or will be taught as online tutorials. In the fourth year the students will continue their study at one of the German IGCHE Universities. During that time, the students will take part in the regular study programme which is taught in German. In addition each student will do an internship in a German company for one semester. If possible, the students will write their thesis in cooperation with the German company. After completion of the study each student will receive a certified Bachelor degree in Engineering from the respective German University and SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University).
German Members of the IGCHE Consortium
The IGCHE is a Consortium of German universities currently lead by Westfälische Hochschule University of Applied Sciences. For each programme stream, a distinct university has been identified to coordinate programme specific activities. Presently the IGCHE consists of six different German universities and the number is expected to increase in recent future. Every student of the programme is assured of admission to one of the German universities that are the members of the IGCHE. All IGCHE universities are accredited to assure high quality education and have a strong international focus. Due to the small number of students per university, they are assured of intensive support and mentoring.
