International Yoga Day
International Day of Yoga, or commonly and unofficially referred to as Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015. An international day for yoga was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in Bharat or India . The Indian Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.
This international yoga day was observed at SRM Institute of Hotel Management in association with India tourism and ISHA Yoga Foundation with participation of our students and 25 students of Karuneelam Government high school along with two of their teachers organized by the Rotary Club of M.M.Nagar.
This event was organized by the India tourism wherein the yoga instructors Mr. Rajith, & MR. Balasubramaniyam from Isha yoga foundation, performed different asanams and created a great awareness of living a healthy life by making yoga a daily part of life.
The Director of SRM IHM Dr. D. Antony Ashok Kumar also participated and performed the asanas along with the students, faculties of the college and also with the students of Karuneelam Government Boys High School.
An energetic and highly nutritive lunch was served to all the participants after the performance of refreshing and rejuvenating yoga sessions.
