With Pride, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, KTR Campus celebrated Women on the occasion of International Women’s day in the month of March 2020 by organising and conducting various events and workshops.

A month packed with events and workshops was planned by the team of Internal Committee where the co-ordinators from various schools of SRMIST Kattankulathur campus joined hands in organizing the events in three different themes namely cultural, sports and wellness programs. First week was packed with Cultural Events and competitions such as Floral bouquet making, Mehandi, Craft creation, Logo Designing, Rangoli, Cooking without fire, Singing Solo & Group, Dance solo & group and Fashion walk were conducted between 2nd and 6th March, 2020 where women from various faculty both teaching, non teaching and female students actively participated and enjoyed thoroughly. To highlight the winning logo,  will now be the Logo of SRM’s women day celebration in the years to come. 

Sport events were conducted on 6th March including fun sports like lemon and spoon, passing the ball, lucky corner, 100 metre dash and team events like Kho Kho, throwball were conducted for both faculty and female students were allowed to participate, thus promoting student- teacher relationship and sportsmanship among the young minds.

Women and Wellness program was organized on 5thMarch, 2020 which was conducted by the Department of Bio-medical Engineering and School of Bioengineering, in that non invasive wellness tests like diabetes special tests and fitness tests was overseen which included Peripheral Vascular efficiency, Foot sensation and Thermal Imaging and fitness tests included Bone density, Body composition and Arthritis were assessed. SRM Medical College and research Institute invited all women staffs and female students for a free pap-smear test for age group above 30 years and mammogram screening for age group above 40 years.

The March 9th was all set for a grand celebration of women’s day with a large gathering of more than 2000+ women teaching staffs, non teaching staffs and female students. The event welcomed women of SRMIST family to cherish the day with gift vouchers and special gifts and the auditorium was decorated with stalls of women entrepreneurs. Mrs Padmaja Chunduru, Managing director and CEO of Indian Bank, Chennai was invited as Chief Guest and honoured. Ms. V.Vijayakumari, Municipal Commissioner, Maraimalai Nagar, Chengalpattu district joined us as the guest of honour. The winners of the events were honoured with attractive prizes.

Welcome address was given by Prof.E. Poovammal Presiding Officer, Internal Committee and the event was presided by Dr. P.Sathyanarayanan, Pro- Chancellor (Academics) and felicitated by our Hon’ble Chancellor Dr.T.R.Paarivendhar who gave his special address on women’s day. The Registrar of SRMIST Dr.N.Sethuraman was the person who supported the team throughout the process from planning to execution and delivered his adulation. Event Report and prize distribution was done by Dr.K.Santhalakshmi and Dr.Varshini Karthik. Vote of thanks was given by Dr.S.Rupa Chandra. The event was wrapped up with delight and pride in the hearts of every women for being a women to be celebrated in SRMIST family.

The second week of March is planned for emotional wellness programs and 3rd week of March will be observed with mental health awareness workshops exclusively for women. In addition to the programs quiz, seminars and workshops are planned for 4th week of March, 2020. In SRMIST the entire month of March is prepared to celebrate womanhood by promoting physical and mental well- being of women.
