The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in the year 1991-92. The department offers Undergraduate (UG), Post Graduate (PG) and Ph.D. degree programs. Over the last three decades, we have grown both in infrastructural and in our expertise in various fields related to core electronics and communication engineering.
The B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering is one of the most sought-after undergraduate programmes at SRM Institute of Science and Technology. The B.Tech. ECE program at Kattankulathur campus of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) is accredited by Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, USA.
We have well equipped laboratories with the state-of-the-art research facilities, to support our academic programs. The department has strong collaboration with industries and reputed institutes. Our department has a distinguished record in both teaching and research. The Department has experienced and committed faculty members who are versatile in many diversified fields, with good research potential as is evidenced from the funds they receive from prestigious funding agencies and through their numerous publications and patents filed. Faculty members have excellent academic credentials and are highly regarded.
The primary focus of our curriculum is to impart technical know-how to students, promote their problem-solving skills and to kindle their innovative thoughts. The students are encouraged to undertake various research projects. We ensure that students are abreast with latest technologies through our outcome-based education, teaching learning process and additional enrichment programs like workshops, seminars, conferences and outreach programs. Students are encouraged to actively participate in sports, cultural, curricular, technical & regular academics for their overall development
The ECE program's mission is to produce creative engineers who are both inspired and prepared to address complex societal issues

Message From HoD - Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Prof. K. Vijayakumar is currently heading the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Kattankulathur Campus. He has been associated with SRM group, since 1997. Under his leadership the department has got ABET accreditation and the department is awarded as “Best Industry Linked Institute under category Electrical Engineering and allied” by AICTE - CII in the year 2019.
He is an active researcher and has 160 research publications to his credits. He has guided 10 PhD scholars. His area of research is Power Electronic Converters to Renewable Energy Systems. He also has filed 5 Patents and authored 5 Books & Books Chapters.
He is a Senior member of IEEE and Fellow member of IE(I). He is also a member of professional bodies like IET, ISTE, IEICE, SESI & ISCA. He is an executive committee member of IE(I) Kattankulathur local center. He also served as Branch Counselor of SRM IEEE Student Chapter and Honorary Secretary and Vice Chairman of IET Chennai local network.
He is a reviewer of various International Journals like IEEE and IET. He is serving as a member in various Universities like Board of Studies, Result Passing Board, Doctoral Committee, Board of Examinations, etc. He presently focusses on active experiential learning methodology to create an exciting learning environment for the students to adopt themselves to constantly evolving technology for the career prospects. Also taken initiatives to strengthen Industry – Institute collaboration. He encourages the faculty members to carry work active research for the social cause and convert the research findings into product and or to publish in the reputed journals.
