About the department


The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in the year 1991-92. It is 30 years old now and one of the oldest and well-established department in our University. It offers Undergraduate programs (4 years), Postgraduate programs (2 years), Integrated M.Tech program (5 Years) and Doctoral programs.

Doctoral Programs (Ph.D.) encompassing broad areas of Wireless Communication, Signal/Image Processing, Nano Electronics, VLSI & Embedded Systems, MEMS & Wireless Sensor Networks, Optics and Photonics Communications etc.

B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering is one of the leading undergraduate programmes at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, with a distinction for scientific rigour and development. The B.Tech ECE program at Kattankulathur campus of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) is accredited by Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org.

ECE Dept. has well equipped labs and has ample resources in computing. It has received significant research grants from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under Funds for Improvement of Science and Technology (FIST). Received funded research grants from Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Board of Research in Nuclear Science (BRNS) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Also received, Full-Time & Part-Time Fellowships under Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics & IT from Meity, GoI. The department has strong collaboration with industries and reputed institutes. The faculty members of ECE department are versatile in many diversified fields. They have good research potential and are committed teachers.

The ECE program encourages students to work in research groups to undertake an inventive research project, and outstanding students are often rewarded with seed money, patent support, conference travel allowance, and other benefits. Students are sent to foreign universities under Student abroad program (SAP), where they spend a semester and come back with rich experience. The program continually focuses on creating model students who can succeed in their chosen career path, contribute to their professional sector, and serve as role models for their community

Our curriculum focuses primarily on the knowledge and skills that emerging engineers need to possess. Thanks to our flexible learning environment, Inter-Disciplinary Experiential Active Learning (IDEAL). Our students gain a holistic view of the industry, an understanding of how to solve problems, and a focus on design and modelling that prepares them for success in a broad range of industries, including electronics, communication, software, bioengineering, and robotics, among others.
