The future of Computing rests here. The department's mission is to advance, evolve and enhance Computer Science and Engineering fundamentals to  build the  intellectual capital of the society. The CSE Department Endeavour’s    to    be    an    important    regional, national, and international resource center for the development of Computing and its applications.

The department is witnessing a period of exciting growth and opportunity propelled by the growth of technology and its recognition through excellence. CSE boasts a vibrant student body of about 5000 undergraduate and 50 postgraduate students and a  stellar faculty of professors and lecturers

Facilities

 The department provides extensive computing resources for research and education. This includes more than 800 high-performance computers in the range of Linux, Windows, SUN and Apple workstations and a good number of laptop systems in 26 laboratories apart from the special research labs. In addition to general-purpose file server, the department maintains five specialized servers for database clients, Linux based workstations, Cloud storage and supporting SDN Testbed. The University network communications include a fiber-optic backbone, offering 1Gbps bandwidth from NKN (National Knowledge Network), Airtel and Tata to provide the internet. The department has wireless internet connectivity via a campus-wide 802.11b network to the laptops. There is a separate department library with 800 books, manuals, project reports and lecture CD Rom. The faculty is highly talented and trained from the best laboratories of the USA and Europe. One of the faculty members is a recipient of Research fellow under WISTEMM scheme sponsored by DST & IUSSTF at University of Southern California, Los Angles, USA and one faculty received a Research Fellow from IIM, Ahmedabad. The Department offers quality teaching and research training to the students. It has generated extra-mural grant worth corers of rupees from various funding sources (DRDO, DST, SPARC, BRNS, AICTE, DSIR) and quality publication with an average impact-factor of 2.1731.

A virtual Lab to provide remote-access to simulation-based Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering is set under IIT Delhi which is also  the Nodal Institute with other 10 institutes. It provides a complete Learning Management System around the Virtual Labs where the students/ teachers can avail various tools for learning, including additional web-resources, video-lectures, animated demonstrations and self-evaluation. It covers 100 Virtual Labs, approximately 1000+ web-enabled experiments, helps students to understand the concepts in a clear way through interactive environment.

Apart from academics , enormous scope is given to the students through estimable inhouse projects. One among them is “Building  a Humanoid Robot Professor as a surrogate for the human professors”.

The department also opens the doorstep of education for Virtual Reality (VR)and Augmented Reality (AR). Reputed Adjunct professors are hired  to give  hyper-immersive experience to students in the VR and AR field that will cater to an experiential learning environment through a purely digital ecosystem


Research verticals

Our research centres are funded by several sources spanning government and industry to drive new research directions and to perform high caliber research and development. Grant programmes are supported from internal and/or external sources and offer research funding on competitive and non-competitive bases are initiated under four categories

  • Visual Computing focuses on human-centric visual computing, which comprises work across computer vision and computer graphics with cross- over into artificial intelligence, machine learning, education, healthcare, human-computer interaction and entertainment applications.
  • High Performance Computing spreads its wings across several areas, including optimizing compilers, performance modelling and optimization, parallel algorithms, and software engineering, Supercomputing. Cluster, GRID and Cloud computing.
  • Natural Language Computing finds its wide pathway on computational linguistics and rule-based modeling of human language with statistical, machine learning, and deep learning models.
  • Theoretical Computer Science flies in the area which is not much explored by computer engineers and derives its motivation from practical and everyday computation.

Special Labs

Featured labs are initiated to empower the students and faculty members to ideate and implement the technology-based solutions of varied domains.

  • Open-Source Technology Lab, a Fully equipped lab with Acer PC’s which plays an eminent centre for placement cell to conduct online aptitude test for students during placement drive
  • Brain Computer Interface Lab to cater to the research community who work on Human Computer Interfacing and related areas.
  • Natural Language and Machine Learning Lab which makes the students learn the nuances of these domains for better landing up in companies like Google, Microsoft, IBM, Thought works and Yahoo whose main focus is on NLP and Machine Learning.
  • Wireless Sensor Lab envisioned to provide a practical experience of designing, deploying and implementing wireless sensor networks in both indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Software Defined Networks Lab is equipped with advanced equipment to enable hardware-based, emulation-based and simulation-based studies for SDN and WSDN.
  • A virtual Lab - a remote-access to simulation-based Labs to provide a complete Learning Management System around the Virtual Labs with additional web-resources, video-lectures, animated demonstrations and self-evaluation

National Collaborations

  •  Samsung PRISM (Preparing and Inspiring Student Minds)- a platform for Professors and Students to work on industry-relevant projects in Cutting Edge Technologies along with R&D Engineers at Samsung Research Institute- Bangalore(SRI-B).
  • Collaborative work with BOARD OF RESEARCH IN NUCLEAR SCIENCES (BRNS),supported by Department of Atomic Energy,  Government of India   for  “Performance improvement and GUI development of PINAK CODE”
  • A Special Elective titled “Distributed Computing and System Design” in tie-up with Industry experts  offered by “Skill Vertex” , a start-up by SRM alumini
