International Women’s Day Function

This year we celebrated International Woman’s Day -22, with a lot of pomp and grandeur.  Many competitions were held to cater to the overall talent search amongst our female students and all women employees.  All the events, convened by Prof. E. Poovammal, School of Computing gave space and time for participants to showcase their talents which culminatedto a grand celebration on 8th March, 2022.

The special day started with a special lunch at 12.30p.m. which was followed by games and activities that drew the participation of energetic ladies. The prize winners of the various events were honoured by our Additional Registrar (MHS), Directors, Deans and Head of the departments. Dr.Santhalakshmi, Associate Professor, School of Managementread the report of the IWD 2022.

The program commenced at 2.30pm inDr.T.P.Ganesan auditorium. Our Vice Chancellor welcomed the gathering and urged all the women folk of SRM family to step into research activities as well as to to take new roles and responsibilities.

Our honourable Member of Parliament and Founder Chancellor delivered the Presidential Address and encouraged our women faculty members to excel and shine in all spheres of life.

SRM Kattankulathur Dental College & Hospital and SRM Medical College &Hospital in association with the NationalAssociation for Blind (NAB) compiled a Tamil Braille Book on “Personal Hygiene for Women”. Mrs. Nina Reddy, President NAB received the first copy of the book which was released by our Honorable, Chancellor. This book isfirst of its kind,released in India.This was followed by our Pro-Chancellor’s (Academics)Special Address where he acknowledged the contributions made by women of SRM towardsits constant growth.

Our management on this special day awarded the women achievers in the field of sports. Our Volley Ball Women’s team, that won laurels at the National level, were honoured with cash prizes.

The overall trophy was won by the Department of English and Foreign Languages based on the criteria for winning maximum prizes in cultural and sports events of the women’s day program.

The vote of thanks was delivered by our Registrar. He significantly thanked all the women for their tremendous contributions towards the growth of the university. The program was emceed by Dr.Anderleen Diana, Asst. Prof, Dept. of EFL.

International Women’s Day – IWD- 2022

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

The IWD celebrations at SRMIST KTRcampus started with full enthusiasm from 23 February 2022, two weeks prior to March 8,2022 by organizing various cultural, sports, cookery and wellness events. An internal Committee with active co-ordinators from various schools of SRMIST KTR campus joined hands in organizing the events. Announcements on the events started during the last week of February 2022. The events were well scheduled and spaced to enable all the women faculty, Staff and students to be a part of the same.

Glimpse of the various cultural events

Various competitions were conducted with the themes related to Women empowerment, Gender Equity, Gender sensitization. The Internal committee and Internal Quality Assurance cell of SRMIST organizes this every year with enthusiasm.

Logo designing

The events kickstarted with the logo design competition for IWD 2022. There were an amazing 156 participants and the best logo was chosen by the judges. Participants had to design a logo for the theme “International Women’s Day” within 60 min to showcase their creation. Individual participation was only allowed and copying from external sources was prohibited. The selected logo was honoured by having it fixed in the banners, invitation and souvenir of IWD 2022. Professor E. Poovammal , Presiding officer, Internal Committee and Dr. P. Subashree Natarajan, Dean, SOM, were the judges for this event.

Poetry

A wow number of 176 participants were given topics on-spot on which they needed to write a poem in their own words. They were asked to make it short and sweet. Both English and Tamil poetry was allowed. The poem had the word limit between 20 to 50 words. The event had good participation and winners were selected based on the scores given by the judges. Dr. S Albert Antony Raj, Dy. Dean, S&H, Dr. Jayanthi. R, Prof. and HoD, Saveetha University, Dr. R. Selva Sundaram, Head, Acct. and Fin, S&H, Dr. Kavitha Nair. Prof. Saveetha University were the judges for the event.

Speech

Next up was the speech competition wherearound 121 participated. This was individual event and topics were given the on-spot. Time limit given was 15 minutes. Both English and Tamil was allowed and the event went well.  Winners were selected based on the scores given by the judges; Dr. K Sundaraj, Dr.Munuswamy, Members of Tamil Peryam, SRMIST, Dr. Kavitha Nair, Dr.Jeyanthi Rajendran, Foreign Language Professors SaveethaUniversity , Chennai, were the judges for the event.

Solo Singing

In the solo singing competition, we saw a huge participation of 164. Participants were given a time limit of 3 mins to showcase their singing talent. There was no specific genre given and the winners were selected based on the scores given by the judges Dr. P. Rajeswari of College of Management and  Ms.Sheeba, Institute of Hotel Management, SRMIST

Best out of Waste

In this competition, there were 156 participants. Participants were given a time limit of 1.5 hours to create something out of waste to exhibit their innovative ideas and display their skills. No group participation was entertained and no specific theme was given. The ideas on Sustainability were appreciated.  The Evaluation was done by the judgesDr.Kantha Arunachalam Dean- CENR and Dr. Padma Venkat, Dean, School of Public Health, SRMIST.

Rangoli

Moving onto some colourful events, the rangoli making competition had 178 participants. It was a team-based event (1 to 3 members per team). The dimension of the Rangoli was 7x7 ft (125 x 125cm). The winners were selected based on the scores given by the judges; Ms.Revathy, digital head ,Kumudam , Ms.S.Kalpana., Journalist with 20+ years experience in Ananda vikatan and Dr.K.S.Lakshmi, Director Admissions - SRMIST

Hair Dressing

In the hair dressing event, 64 participants had participated.  Participants were given 30 min to showcase theircreativity.1 – 2 members per team were only allowed and no copying from the external sources.  No hair colour allowed and absolutely no adds ons or adds ins of any kind. No hair extension allowed. All styling was supposed to be performed by competitor only. Winners were selected based on the scores given by the judges; Ragavi Gloria, and Mrs. Padma, Professional Hair Stylists.

Debate

With 60 participants, for whom topics were given on-the-spot on which Individual Participation was only allowed. Debate time limit was not to exceed 20 mins. Winners were selected based on the scores given by the judges; Ms.Suganthi.

Mehendi

With 88 participants, participants had to apply mehndi on the palm. Time duration was 1 hour for every participant. Judging criteria was on creativity, design and neatness. Winners were selected based on the scores given by the judges; K Hemasankari

Fashion Walk

83 beautiful contestants participated in the fashion event, every participant was given a time duration of 5 minutes. The participants were judged based on costume, theme, walking stance and attitude. The judges were Ms.Vaishulisavallal, Actress VJ Model Prakash Ganesan,  Mr Fashion Charm Chennai 2021 (RFE)

Dance

Placing beautiful dance steps for the dance competitions, we had 102 participants for the solo dance category and 75 participants for the group dance competitions. The participants were given a time duration of 3 to 5 minutes and were judged on factors like choreography and technique. The judges were; Ms.Srividya, RJ Suriyan Films; Mr.Arvinth, Master Bharat, Master Sundar,TES Dance Studio

Cookery events:

The Institute of Hotel Management had organized three events namely Eatathon , Mystery cooking and Desert Queen. The participants were thrilled to work on using the fabulous workstations in IHM. They had a great experience and enjoyed every moment.

IWD-SPORTS

Sports play an important role in building physical and mental capabilities of the person. It enhances the leadership qualities of the person engaged. It enables us to overcome sufferings and worries. Keeping this in mind, various sport events were conducted with overwhelming response. The games included track race, shot put, cricket ball throw, slow cycling, lucky corner, tug of war, badminton, tennikoit etc.

Men for Women:

Men were encouraged to make a themed video on: - “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow". The focus was on the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, gender quality, environmental and disaster risk reduction. No prize was awarded for this event. This event is considered as the special contribution for women by Men including Teaching, Non-Teaching staff members and male students. Only individual Participation was allowed.

Teamwork

The success of all these events had immense teamwork by the beautiful organizers at the back stage.Thanks to the overall organizing team of IWD 2022 from SRMIST, Kattankulathur. Two weeks long celebrations were convened by Dr. E. Poovammal, Presiding Officer –SRMIST.

Nature of the Event: A half a day 3W’s Module -1 exercise workshop designed for the working women’s to carryout exercises at their working place to improve their knowledge about workplace physical activity and thereby to promote mental well-being and improve working performance.

Participants: Working Women of SRM Institute of Science and Technology

Nature of participation : “Women’s Workplace Workout: The 3 w’s” workshop was conducted at Dr TP Ganesan auditorium, mini hall 1 on 17/03/2022. Five screening stations were kept to make the assessment fast and comfortable. Assessment includes data collection on demographic, self-reported comorbidity check, previously validated self-reported musculoskeletal pain questionnaire and perceived stress scale related to their work. At the end of the workshop, patient satisfaction with the course was assessed through another questionnaire.

Around 9am all the registered participants reported and underwent the screening procedure. The program started at 9:30am with welcome note by Ms.B Kavyaa, 4th semester postgraduate student of Masters of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Physiotherapy, followed by taking the blessing from the almighty by lightening the lamp. The lightening event was carried in an innovative way, by passing the candle to each one of the participants who have taken part in the workshop, and emphasising them to elevate, create and remain positive. Then the was handed to our respected Dean I/C and Convenor of the Program.

Prof. T. S. Veeragoudhaman, Dean I/C, SRM College of Physiotherapy addressed the audience with his valuable and extraordinary speech, about multitasking working women who ignore personal ties jeopardizing her health physically, mentally, and socially. He also explained the importance of 3 W’s and its different level modules to be coming in the future. Later, he handed the session over to the convenor/ speaker for the program Mrs. M Anbupriya Assistant Professor, SRM college of Physiotherapy. A 30 minutes of theoretical session based on ACSM and other PA international guidelines and recommendations was presented. Followed by 1 hour 30 minutes of practical session, where postgraduate students demonstrated the 3 W’s module-1 exercise simulating their workstation. Demonstration includes, breathing exercise, pelvic floor exercise and core exercises with variations in sitting and standing. All the participants were made to do the workout on chair and in standing with proper commands promoted active encouragement and involvement of each participant. Balloons and balls were distributed to do the workouts aiming relaxation. The session became very interactive when the participants did the workout along with the models and their queries were answered. The women were satisfied with the exercises being taught and enjoyed the session and were looking forward for the next workout sessions. Around 12PM, the workshop ended with a vote of thanks given by Ms. Harini, 4th semester postgraduate student of Masters of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Physiotherapy followed by a group photo. All the participants were requested to leave their signature on the sign board as a mark of memory and then healthy snacks was served.

We thank the management and our Dean In-Charge Prof. T. S. Veeragoudhaman, SRM College of Physiotherapy for giving us the opportunity to conduct the workshop for this precise and special population.

Finally, 4th and 2nd semester postgraduate students of Masters of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Physiotherapy and final year undergraduate students were appreciated for their participation in organizing this event.

The first International Conference on Mathematical Techniques and Applications (ICMTA-2020) was being organized by the Department of Mathematics and 168 number of papers has been published in Scopus indexed journals through conference. The prime objective of this conference (ICMTA-2022) is to bring the experts from academia and industry to share their knowledge pertaining to the real-world applications. The conference includes keynote addresses and invited talks by the eminent invited speakers worldwide, and the virtual presentation by researchers. This conference will also provide a premium forum for young researchers to share and discuss novel ideas.

Disaster Management occupies an important place in India’s policy framework. Disaster Management occupies an important place in India’s policy framework. Disaster management is the discipline of dealing with, and thus avoiding any sort of risk – particularly of the natural variety. It is a discipline that involves a number of things, chiefly: preparing, supporting, and rebuilding society when natural or human-made disasters occur. The emergence of new technologies and constant developments in disruptive technology has proven to be one of the primary engines of growth in current times. The rapid spread of digitalisation, promotion of digital infrastructure, and increasing levels of technological know-how amongst every individual across the world is creating an ecosystem that allows a deeper integration of technology in our daily lives
