The Department of English was started in 2003 offering General English course to only one major Department: B.Sc Biotechnology. Now, it offers General English course to nine departments.
The faculty members consistently enrich themselves in a variety of ways such as participating and conducting seminars, conferences and workshops, presenting papers and publishing articles.
Once every three years the department invites highly qualified and experienced academicians to revise the syllabus so that students get a more contemporary view of current society. The present syllabus is set with the objective of catering to students of all backgrounds irrespective of the medium of instruction they had studied in school. The syllabus is equally balanced with Literature as well as the technical and functional use of the English Language, keeping in mind the job market.
Besides curriculum the department has its own club, The English Literary Club called Eurhythm conducts various competitions like, Quiz, Extempore, Debate, Elocution, Essay Writing, Poetry Writing, Collage, and Calligraphy. As part of co-curriculum it organizes seminars or conference annually. It also encourages the students to participate in inter-collegiate competitions.
In 2007 the department organized a State Level Workshop on Grooming Graduates for the Job Market and a Workshop on Poetry Writing; a State Level Seminar on Attitude Skill and Knowledge-The Art of Leadership in 2008; a State Level Seminar on Lingua Franca in2009; and a National Level Conference on Linguistic Imperialism in 2011.
