Enterpreneurship has become the most desired and sought-after goal for the current generation. Keeping this in mind , the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, SRM College of Pharmacy, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University), organized a one-day conference titled ‘Herbal Drugs : A Treasure to Enterpreneurship’ on August 23, 2013 at Dr.T.P.Ganesan Auditorium, Mini Hall.
The day’s events were set in tune by Dr.K.S.Lakshmi, Dean, SRM College of Pharmacy,SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) and Convener of the conference, with her welcome address. The Chief Guest for the day was Dr.M.Ponnavaiko, Vice-Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University), who enlightened the audience with his much-informative and interesting speech on the importance of herbal medicines. Dr.N.Chandraprabha, Director, Health Sciences, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University), gave her felicitations on the occasion.
The Scientific Session began with the most anticipated lecture of the day, ‘Herbal Value Addition and Marketing’ by Mr.A.S.Haridas, Editor, Velaanmai Magazine who is also an entrepreneur in the domain of herbal drugs/products. The lecture was highly informative, interactive and enjoyable to the audience who interacted with great enthusiasm with the speaker. Post-lunch session started with the lecture on ‘Demand and Supply of Medicinal Plants Used in ASU Systems’ by Dr.A.Saraswathy, Director, Capt.Srinivasamoorthy Drug Research Institute for Ayurveda and Siddha’ who shared a wealth of information in her lecture. This was followed by a power-packed, highly interactive and educative session on ‘Drugs and Diet in Ayurveda’ by Dr.Vanitha Muralikumar, Principal, Sairam Ayurveda Medical College and Research Centre.
Around 250 participants from various Pharmacy, Life-science and Medical colleges participated in this programme. Dr.P.Valentina, Professor and Head, Dept. of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, SRM College of Pharmacy, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) and Organising Secretary of the programme delivered the vote of thanks. This conference enlightened the audience the about the export of herbal drugs/products, which would encourage medicinal plant knowledgeable investments into the sector and promote entrepreneurial activities therein. On the whole, the seeds of entrepreneurship as a career option were sown effectively in the aspiring young minds of the audience.
