Best Research Paper Presentation Award at Anna University, Tirunelveli, 2016

Society of Environmental Engineers (SEE), Anna University Regional Campus - Tirunelveli has organized "Preconference Workshop" on April 18th followed by "National Conference on Environmental Rejuvenating Trends (NCERT- 2016)" on April 19th.The environment where we  live is been getting polluted on a daily basis due to unethical anthropological activities which is nothing but due to the over exploitation of highend technological development in an adverse side. Thus our biosphere is getting contaminated in a drastic rate. The conference includes eight sub-themes covering all the environmental technological developments and the alarming environmental issues.

Kavya S Kumar, M.Tech Environmental 2nd year presented research paper on "Removel of heavy metal using different Part of Typhalatifolia" under the guidance of J.S.Sudarsan, Assistant Professor Department of Civil Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University), Kattankulathur.  Based on the different research deliberations 66 research papers were selected for the oral presentation. Out of 66 research papers presented our paper got selected for the Best Research Paper Presentation Award. The research paper deals with removal of hexavalent chromium which is carcinogenic in nature. The whole process is carried out in hydroponic condition, in pilot units. As a part of urbanization and industrialization, various conktaminants are added to water sources through uncontrolled discharges resulting in the gradual degradation of water quality. Metals and heavy metals are toxic elements mostly released from tannery industries. Due to improper wastewater treatment and discharges of untreated wastewater into the water bodies will leads to several impacts on the environment at the same time health hazardous.Rhizofiltration – an hydroponic-based environmental biotechnology - as a cost-effective and sustainable alternative for the remediation of heavy metals pollutants in drinking water and wastewater treatment systems.
