Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of SRM University and Maraimalai Nagar Municipality jointly organized a one-time use plastic awareness bicycle rally event. The rally was flagged off by Mrs. Lakshmi, Municipal Commissioner, Maraimalai Nagar and gave a special address to the participants.

The event was felicitated by the Director campus life  Dr. Leenus Martin.The rally was presided  by Dr. V.Thirumurugan, Associate Director,Campus Life SRMIST. It was attended by university students, Faculties  and government middle school students, headmaster and teachers. The bicycle rally started from the SRM college campus and proceeded to the adopted village of Kalivandapattu (about 35 km) and returned to the university campus to raise awareness about the dangers of using plastic (one time use plastic carry bags) . A pledge was taken not to use plastics. Certificates were presented to all the students who participated in the event by Dr. Thirumurugan, Associate Director Campus.the event was coordinated by Dr. Supraja Associate Professor , Dr.Rajkumar Assistant Professor ,  and Mr. Pradeep ,Assistant Professor ,Civil SRMIST
